TheEuropeanBankforReconstructionandDevelopment(EBRD)hasapprovedm(￡.4m)fundingfortheconstructionofLekelaPower’snewMWwindfarm,WestBakrWind,intheGulfofSuez,Egypt.
PlannedtobebuiltintheGulfofSuez,30kmnorthwestofRasGhareb,theWestBakrWindwillreceivetheapprovedfinancingjointlyfromtheEBRD,theInternationalFinanceCorporation(IFC),whichisamemberoftheWorldBankGroup,andtheOverseasPrivateInvestmentCorporation(OPIC).Saidtobethesecondprivately-ownedprojectinEgypt,WestBakrWindfarmwillbeconstructedandoperatedbyLekelaEgyptWindPowerwhichisownedbyLekelaPower.Independentpowerproducer,LekelaPower,isajointventureofActisEnergyFundIIIandMainstreamRenewablePower.ApartoftheEgyptianGovernment’sBuild,Own,Operate(BOO)scheme,theWestBakrWindisexpectedtoincreasethecountry’swindenergycapacityby14%.Egyptaimstogenerate20%ofitstotalelectricityfromrenewablesourcesby.Lekelaplansto
